7 Days to Die features a comprehensive building system using Blocks that allows players to construct a variety of structures, including bases, houses, fortifications, and other architectural projects. This guide covers the essentials of building structures, including planning, materials, techniques, and strategies.

Planning Your Structure

Before beginning construction, consider these key factors:

  • Purpose: Define the purpose of your structure—whether it’s for shelter, defense, storage, or another function.
  • Location: Select a strategic location that suits the structure's purpose. Consider factors like resource availability, local Biome difficulty, and proximity to Traders.
  • Design: Sketch out a rough design of your structure to plan space utilization, defensive features, and aesthetic aspects.
  • Scalability: Plan for future expansions and upgrades to adapt to changing needs.

Blood Moon Horde Considerations

Keep in mind the following principles when building a base for Blood Moon Horde nights:

  • The zombies always know where you are during Blood Moons. No use in trying to hide as they will find you.
  • They will take the path of least resistance to get to you. If no unobstructed path is available, they will take the path that involves having to destroy the weakest obstacles. Creating an intentional "weak point" allows you to predict the path the zombies will take so that you can concentrate your defenses.
  • Zombies that cannot find any path to you will instead attack the blocks either above or below you. They don't give up.
  • Zombies that take fall damage and are within 11 blocks distance of the player will have a small chance of entering rage mode. This causes the zombie to attack any block in its vicinity for a short time or until damaged by the player. This may result in damage to support blocks.
  • When a zombie is killed and the current wave is not yet complete, another zombie replacement will spawn. The longer the time for a zombie to path to you, the more rest time you get before the replacement arrives, giving you time to make potential repairs.

Building Techniques

Mastering building techniques is key to creating stable and functional structures:

Defensive Structures

Enhance your structures with defensive features to protect against zombie hordes:

  • Barriers: Build walls, fences, and barricades to slow down and control enemy movement.
  • Traps: Use spikes, electric fences, and other traps to damage and deter zombies.
  • Towers: Construct watchtowers and sniper nests for better visibility and defense.
  • Moats: Dig moats around your structure to create additional obstacles for enemies.

Advanced Construction

For more experienced builders, advanced techniques can further enhance your structures:

  • Electricity: Implement electrical systems to power lights, traps, and automated defenses.
  • Secret Passages: Design hidden rooms and escape routes to use in emergencies.
  • Automated Defenses: Set up turrets and other automated defenses to reduce manual intervention during attacks.
  • Aesthetics: Use a variety of materials and decorative items to create visually appealing and unique structures.
