New Style

Hey Game widow. How are you doing? Late there have been some changes to the official site. I allready changed our 7dtd-image on the main page but there are many changes. Could you fit the wiki into the new color scheme? It's gray'ish now and we're still on green :) Thanks in advance - Eichi87 (talk) 18:42, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

LOL, i just left you a message along the same lines. Could you provide me with a few representative screenshots so i could figure out a colour scheme ? — Game widow (talk) 18:44, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
Haha nice timing :) I will upload some screenshots. they still got the old logo ingame but im pretty sure the new one will replace it sooner or later. I guess we can stick to the color scheme of the official website http://7daystodie.com/ - Eichi87 (talk) 18:57, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
Would you like this background or this one ? — Game widow (talk) 18:59, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
The first one (7dtd_background.jpg). I uploaded some screenshots:

You can also see the new skills and crafting system. thats why i made so many screenshot ;) - Eichi87 (talk) 19:11, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
I tried to export some colors. maybe fade 383838 - 919191 for title background, ffffff for Title, 333333 for headlines, 333333 for text, maybe 6e6c6f for backgrounds (the darker green right now) and maybe aaa9a8 for the windows (the lighter green windows now). - Eichi87 (talk) 19:24, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
That would work, but then we definitely need a different anchor (links) colour — Game widow (talk) 20:00, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes I think the white is too bright. A light gray would be nice. And something is off with the text shadows i think. - Eichi87 (talk) 20:32, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
Looks good so far. Maybe the text a bit darker. Some may have a hard time reading it. And still something's off with the shadows. - Eichi87 (talk) 13:14, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
you have to be more specific than "something's off". screenshots, explanations, anything — Game widow (talk) 13:15, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
sorry i was in berlin for some days and couldnt write anything. I think it looks really good now. Maybe the 7dtd logo top left needs to be changed to fit the new one. - Eichi87 (talk) 11:51, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
It has been changed. Do you not see the red one? if not, you must clear your browser cache — Game widow (talk) 11:52, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
Ok nice. looks good :) - Eichi87 (talk) 11:55, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

File Upload Issues

Hello! Has been a while since I had to post on your talk page. There appears to be an issue uploading certain files, a user has mentioned it and updated the Admin noticeboard with it affecting another wiki. Anything you can shed some light on? Thunder Sniper (talk) 00:59, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

it's widespread and we are aware of it. Thanks for letting me know — Game widow (talk) 01:52, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Heads-up on changes

I wanted to give you a heads-up on some changes I've been making. Take a look at them and please let me know if I'm on the right track or not. I don't want to get too far into something and find out I'm going about it all wrong.

Project Cleanup

I created this project page to try to spear-head a big effort to get the wiki up to date with A13 before A14 is released. Do you think if we linked to it conspicuously from the front page it would help? What else can we do to drum up support for this effort?

I'd also like to update the front page so that it reflects up-to-date information, images, videos, etc.

Grid Removal

Since The Pimps removed the crafting grid in A13, we have to change a lot of pages to remove it (part of the project above). I've done some work with the templates involved with mimicking the grid on wiki articles, including marking them as deprecated so that (hopefully) no one uses them. It's a shame because the templates did some cool stuff.

New Templates

I've been creating new templates and editing existing ones that help mark pages to be cleaned up, deleted or that are outdated and should be unlinked from most other pages (but left behind for historical purposes). I've added a feature to the Template:Delete to include a date if the editor provides one, so that admins can see how long the page has been marked.

My plan is to continue adding document management templates to make it easier to identify pages that need work and display a notice on those pages, similar to how Wikipedia works. The goal is to get more active editors.

Revising The Infobox:item

I'm in the early stages of revising the item infobox. It's pretty cludgy and a lot of the parameters need looked at, with the goal of presenting only useful information to the reader. For example, does the reader really benefit from knowing the in-game ID of an item? Something to discuss.

At any rate, having said all that I wanted to touch base with you before I get too far down the rabbit hole and end up wasting too much time going in a direction that is unnecessary or is being done in a wrong way.

Sorry for the long post, but there has been a lot done in the last two weeks. =)

Hi, I appreciate the work you are doing but this week I have only bare minimum access to the net so i can't be of much help. I will be back in full force this weekend and will have an indepth look then. Meanwhile, do feel free to coordinate with the other admins on this wiki. — Game widow (talk) 07:15, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback and I did post to the admin noticeboard first, before posting to your talk page. However, many of the listed admins have been inactive for months, one for years. The current lack of updates reflects the fact that there aren't enough active admins driving general maintenance and content relevancy.
So I'd like to volunteer to help in that capacity—as shameless as this self-promotion may be. To demonstrate my mettle, so-to-speak, take a look at these contributions:
Created Template:Cleanup (with documentation and sandbox+testcases subpages) and began using it to identify pages that need attention
Created Template:Recipe (with documentation) to replace Template:Grid/Crafting_Table. This template is successfully used on 114 pages and counting
Created Template:Recipe_dpl (again, with documentation) to replace DPL queries based on Template:Grid/Crafting_Table
Created 7_Days_To_Die_Wiki:Cleanup to develop and steer momentum in updating the entire wiki.
Created Help:Deleting to help editors better understand when to mark an article for deletion VS removed
Responding to and identifying spammers
That in addition to numerous page edits meant to clean up and update articles, making them relevant to the current version of the game.
I know it's bold (hopefully not too bold) to ask for administrator privileges but I think the wiki desperately needs more activity from the admins and I have the time and ability to help. Let me know what you think, once you have better Internet access and some time to mull it over.
GrayBeard_Actual (talk)
I'm all for shameless self-promotion :) Poof! you have admin rights — Game widow (talk) 19:32, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Wikimedia Extension

Is it possible to enable the optional extension: Labeled Section Transclusion? It would be useful to be able to transclude sections from one page to another so that changes at one location can be reflected elsewhere. For example, I would like to transclude the section Forge#For_Iron: in the new page Iron_(Forge). Then if the original page is updated, both pages reflect updated information.

Also, any word on including Font Awesome?

Thanks!

Of course, but it's already enabled. Is it not working ? Also, Font Awesome has been there for some time. Where where you expecting to see it? having it available and in use are 2 different things :D — Game widow (talk) 01:42, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
Font Awesome and the extension are both done and dusted, you're right. I think you meant to see and comment below, on the wiki stats question, which was my most recent comment. As an aside, what is the etiquette around one's "personal section" on another's talk page? Can/should I be cleaning my own section or should I leave it for you to clean or archive as you see fit? GrayBeard_Actual (talk) 07:11, 28 May 2016 (UTC)

GrayBeard_Actual (talk)

you have Font Awesome installed, you just need to apply it to the selectors you want to use it on by adding font-family: "Fontawesome-webfont"; and LabeledSectionTransclusion has been enabled — Game widow (talk) 09:02, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
Thank you! The fonts work fine and I've implemented one on Template:Warning_Box. I think it looks nice, fits the theme of the wiki, and is not in-your-face distracting, but it does get your attention. A working example is Template:Recipe.
The extension is a less of a success story. I've run into this problem: https://github.com/HydraWiki/DynamicPageList/issues/59
I can transclude sections by name, without marking a page but the process of marking a page causes the DPL error on the page to-be-marked.
It's still useful in that I can transclude entire sections by section-name but if you want to disable it until there is a fix, I understand.
You can see the results of the test here: User:GrayBeard_Actual/Sandbox#Testing_section_transclusion
GrayBeard_Actual (talk)

I noticed the Github issue was closed and I tested the Extension again today and it works as expected now.

Thanks again.

I can't really take any credit, but i will pass on your thanks to our platform team who did the work :) — Game widow (talk) 02:28, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

Wiki Stats

Hey there, is there anything that can be done to make our stats more accurate and useful? I'm referring to stats that are displayed in the following pages: Special:ConnectStats and Special:Hydralytics. The "views" statistic is often "0."

With these statistics, we could focus cleaning and updating efforts on the most popular pages first.

As always, thanks!

Username changed/reverted

It looks like my username was reverted (back to mcwresearch) with merge of Gamepedia and Twitch. Is there any way to get it back to Graybeard_Actual?

Thanks!

GrayBeard_Actual (talk) 23:53, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

Just checking in on this to see if there is anything you need from me.

Thanks again!

GrayBeard_Actual (talk) 02:20, 18 March 2017 (UTC)

I have followed up and the ticket and will push to get this resolved. My sincere apologies for the delay — Game widow (talk) 12:23, 18 March 2017 (UTC)

Page/article logs me out

When I visit the page User:GrayBeard_Actual/Diagnostics/Spam_Watch, which I created a while ago, I get logged out of the system, consistently. I've tried simply re-creating the page and that doesn't solve the problem. Do you mind taking a look?

Thanks!

GrayBeard_Actual (talk) 23:22, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

That's very weird, but i will have someone look into that. — Game widow (talk) 13:19, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
Actually, i know exactly what's wrong and it's something we discovered not that long ago. When you transclude recent changes (which you have on that page) this happens. One work around is to use the rss feed rather than transcluding the page. — Game widow (talk) 13:39, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
No problem. I assume you are referring to using the <RSS> tag (which looks pretty handy in this case). Doing so, however, it looks like I'll have to add each page to the RSS whitelist. Are there any problems with me doing so? I could rotate entries in and out of the whitelist, say every 90 days. I'm not sure what kind of load RSS category-tracking puts on the server, as each page added to that whitelist is then tracked.
And thanks for looking into that! — GrayBeard Actual (talk) 23:18, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
It's totally ok to edit the whitelist (MediaWiki:Rss Whitelist) — Game widow (talk) 12:10, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Russian Wiki

GOOGLE TRANSLATE! Understand what you want...

I'm from the Russian-speaking version of the wiki. Lately, I have not seen it active people. I want to become a administrator, I realized the only Russian-language wiki. My plans are great ...

  • Translate all templates.
  • Add new modules.
  • Add a new template category to simplify the "walking" of people on the wiki.
  • Update home page and some offices that are generally worthless...

Please, if you can do me a wiki administrator of the Russian-speaking. Thank you in advance...

(In this wiki, I 26 place, maybe it will convince you that I can trust.) DimanWorld (talk) 14:39, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

Done :) — Game widow (talk) 16:12, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
YYEEE!!! DimanWorld (talk) 16:27, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

With English at me bad, look screenshots...

I hope you understand me and help to remove from it? Please... DimanWorld (talk) 10:56, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

I believe what you see there are where the ads would be (apparently you use a not very current blocker). This causes the large space because you have specified your table as width="100%" which forces the whole thing down below the ad. However, when this becomes your actual main page, there is no ad on that page (you are working on the sub-page which does have an ad), your table will be at the top. — Game widow (talk) 13:08, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
Do yoy speak Russian? DimanWorld (talk) 13:33, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
Unfortunately not. — Game widow (talk) 13:33, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
How to remove ads from the site? DimanWorld (talk) 13:49, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
Can't be done / should not be done. How do you think we pay for servers? — Game widow (talk) 14:01, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
And then make sure that the table is displayed correctly on all the computers?
The table will be displayed correctly on all computers when you move that information to the main page — Game widow (talk) 14:12, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
Thank you! :) DimanWorld (talk) 14:16, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

The approximate form of the title of the new page is ready. Can it be assessed? DimanWorld (talk) 15:45, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Hello, I need to become a bureaucrat Russian-speaking project. Since not all of the following actions available to me. Treat with understanding, not to do from the king himself. DimanWorld (talk) 09:30, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

Game Widow? I award you special achivement! DimanWorld (talk) 15:52, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Regular page corruptions.

Every day for the last 4 days the Template:Recipe/doc page is being corrupted, (currently with Hello!), it is from a different ip address every day. I have gotten sick of fixing it. See the history.

— Tilleen (talk) 00:18, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
I did add a global filter for that, so hopefully this should not recur — Game widow (talk) 00:46, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
Has happened again. Always from a different ip address. I don't see how you could block it unless you disallow anonymous updates.
— Tilleen (talk) 20:34, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Inter-language page move.

I have seen a number of times non-english pages (which have valid content) get created on the english site. Is there a way of moving them to the appropriate language? It would seem to be unkind to just delete them if they are valid, and waste all their work. for example there is a page currently Клэйм_блок which looks valid and could be moved to the russian wiki.

— Tilleen (talk) 22:48, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

If the appropriate language wiki exists, absolutely. You can either recreate the page on the appropriate wiki and copy the contents, or you can export the page from the english wiki and import it to the other wiki. Or you can contact the admin on the target wiki and let them know. If there is no wiki in that language, then the page should be moved to Category:7DTD_wiki_in_other_languages, in a suitable subcategory. — Game widow (talk) 13:02, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
I was hoping there was a simple move command, similar to the move at the top of every page, or a option somewhere where you can just change the language definition and it will the display the page in the correct site.
— Tilleen (talk) 23:51, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
No such luck, i'm afraid — Game widow (talk) 00:02, 21 March 2017 (UTC)

Search not working correctly.

  • Is there a reason that the dynamic search from the search bar at the top of the page, and from the search page does not work correctly any more? Seemed to stop working a couple of days ago.— Tilleen (talk) 00:56, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
There was a problem but it was reportedly fixed. I will follow up in the morning and get back to you. — Game widow (talk) 02:47, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
Are things working any better for you this morning? — Game widow (talk) 11:17, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
No. Searches still only return stuff if you get the name of the page exactly correct, so searching for "Feral" returns nothing, but searching for "Feral Zombie" returns a link to the correct page. — Tilleen (talk) 03:54, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
I'll keep pushing then — Game widow (talk) 11:00, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Editing wiki to update information to A16.

Hey there, I posted the same on Thunder Sniper's talk page too, but I thought I might as well post it here too.

Hello, I was recently looking through some pages of this wiki and have found that not a lot has been updated to the latest version (Alpha 16), and have tried to edit the pages accordingly. When trying to edit out misinformation for the new update, a message pops up saying I do not have sufficient privileges to remove sections that are no longer valid the the current info regarding the game. Any change you could get in contact please? If you are worried I might spread misinformation myself, I have been playing this game for an extremely long time and have racked up numerous hours in it (600+ hours) and know exactly what I'm talking about-

i saw that thundersniper did reply, but just one little thing may have beem missed, adding url links requires more rights than new(er) users often have. To link to a page on the wiki you don't need (nor should you use) the url, just enclose the pagename in double square brackets, like [[Drowning]]Game widow (talk) 13:19, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

Hey again, ah that seems a lot more easier than using the link. Still a little new to the shortcuts that can be used here, but I'll remember them eventually :) Nextia (talk) 15:42, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

Cancel button not working.

If I am editing a page and decide to cancel the update and press the cancel button, rather than going back to the unedited version of the page, I get directed to the "Undefined" page. — Tilleen (talk) 02:32, 13 August 2017 (UTC)

This is a known issue and there is a ticket for it. Do you use the Visual Editor exclusively? If not, then a simple work-around is to go to Special:Preferences, then the Editing tab and deselect "Enable step-by-step publishing", which removes that button (and the temptation to click on it). — Game widow (talk) 11:03, 13 August 2017 (UTC)
