Description

The Dew Collector is a Workstation that generates Murky Water over time.

Usage

Once crafted, the Dew Collector can be placed. It takes up a 3x3x3 area of space, though only the central block needs to be supported, and only the central block requires 6 blocks of open space above it. Bars, cube frames, and other 'see-through' shapes placed above the central block will not prevent the Dew Collector from working.

The Dew Collector will gradually fill up with Murky Water over time at a rate of one per 6-10 in-game hours at baseline, which is 2-4 Murky Water per in-game day. There are also 3 tool slots that the Dew Collector can hold which increase the efficiency of water collection. When a Water Filter is installed, Water is collected instead of Murky Water, purifying any Murky Water that has yet to fill up to a full bottle.

Tools

Similar to the Campfire and Forge, the Dew Collector can have tools/implements installed in it to increase its efficiency.

Heat Map

Even though the Dew Collector is a passive workstation requiring the player only to empty it, it will still increase the Heatmap at the following rates:

HeatMapStrength 0.8%
HeatMapTime 5000
HeatMap Frequency 1000

Every in-game hour is 1000 ticks

This means every Dew Collector (until full) will produce 0.8% heat per in-game hour to a maximum of 4% after which the heat decay balances out with heat production. A total of 25 Dew Collectors will therefore reach 100% after 5 in-game hours potentially spawning a Screamer.

Notes

  • Since Dew Collectors produce heat constantly, one should consider having a separate farm for them rather than directly at your base.
  • Broken Dew Collectors can be found at some Points of Interest, rarely containing Water or some of the workstation tools.
    • Despite the Dew Collector not requiring them, Empty Water Jars can also be found inside Broken Dew Collectors. This is due to the Empty Water Jar replacing the Murky Water found prior to Version 2.5, as the developers initially replaced all Murky Water in loot with Empty Water Jars prior to the 2.5 experimental release, but reconsidered and added both Water and Murky Water back to loot. However, a few loot tables kept their Empty Water Jars.

History

  • Alpha 21: Added Dew Collector. Its crafting recipe was 1 Water Filter, 100 Scrap Polymers, 4 Short Iron Pipe, and 4 Duct Tape.
    • The Water Filter could only be reliably obtained from Traders at this point, either as a guaranteed Tier 1 Quests Complete reward or by purchasing it.
  • Version 1.0: Removed Water Filter requirement from the crafting recipe. Unlocks at Workstations 2.
    • Converted Water Filter to a workstation tool that makes the Dew Collector produce Water. Without one, it now produces Murky Water.
    • Added the Gatherer and Tarp. The Gatherer replaces the Water Filter as a Tier 1 Quests Complete reward.
  • Version 2.5: Raised Workstations skill unlock level to 16 and increased required item counts. Now requires a Workbench to craft.
    • All Dew Collector tools are now craftable.
