Overview

Top Soil is a basic block that can be used to replace Biome specific top layers as it adopts the texture of the respective Biome. It shares its resource and structural characteristics with the Dirt Block.

Digging up Top Soil using a Shovel will yield 22 Clay Soil in any Biome. This means it provides more Clay Soil than is needed to craft making it a renewable resource. The gain can be increased by investing into the Mother Lode perk.

Top Soil can be repaired using up to 14 Clay Soil, but cannot be melted in a Forge nor scrapped.

Uses

Since Top Soil can be crafted it can be used to cover holes in any Biome as it changes into the related ground texture automatically.
This may be used to hide your base as the roof block on your structures (above ground). This works best in the Forest Biome as in any case it takes on a dark green colour on the map. Note that the shade of green is slightly darker so it might not be effective against players specifically looking for this.
